RAM 700 2021 Debut: USA, Specs, Redesign & Photos. While North American drivers prefer super-capable pickup trucks, the rest of the world rather sticks with something smaller and more efficient. South American is a perfect example, where we can find a lot of small pickups, based on classic passenger cars. Fiat Strada is one of them, as well as its corporal sibling, which comes completely redesigned for the next year, as the 2021 Ram 700 The new model comes with significant changes but keeps the same base approach.
This subcompact pickup keeps its unibody layout, which makes it super maneuverable, a perfect small commercial vehicle. The new generation comes after decades and it will be offered across South America, particularly in Brazil.
Interior
The new pickup truck borrows most of the details from the Argo when it comes to the interior design. This particularly refers to the dashboard. As we are talking about a model that’s designed primarily for the developing markets, things are rather simple. The overall quality isn’t particularly amazing and things are rather simple. The new model is rather about practicality and functionality.
Still, the list of standard equipment seems more than decent. This model comes equipped with the company’s modern UConnect infotainment system that runs on a 7-inch touchscreen. You may also count on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, as well as on things like Bluetooth, wireless charging and similar tech goodies.
2021 Ram 700 Engines
You may count on two familiar units from Fiat when it comes to powertrain. Base models will come equipped with a familiar 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine, which puts around 85 horsepower. If you want an upgrade, you may count on a smaller but more efficient 1.3-liter turbo engine, which puts around 100 horsepower. Both engines come in pair with a five-speed manual transmission. All models come equipped with the E-Locker traction control system.
Expectations
Towing capacity is the major concern and obstacle for the appearance in the largest truck market in the world. The small pickup is going to be a vehicle for urban needs. A single cabin leaves enough room for the bed, while Double Cab is shredding already deficient space.
Small blocks are not going to return impressive numbers. On the other hand, the fuel economy is a priority, as well as the practicality of the loading and unloading. These are advantages that made mid-size trucks survive the rush of SUVs flooding the market with their versatility. Now, it is time for even smaller pickups to strike back.
2021 Ram 700 Redesign
The new model comes with a completely new design. The company uses a new MC-P platform, the same one that the company uses for the current-generation Argo. Both the Strada and 2021 Ram 700 have borrowed rear suspension from another Fiat model, called Mobi.
Things are notably different between the two siblings when it comes to the styling. While dimensions and overall dimensions are the same, the 2021 Ram 700 comes with a different front face. It takes a lot of inspiration from bigger Ram models, particularly the full-size 1500. That’s particularly notable on the grille, which features a pretty similar shape, as well as the familiar mesh grille.
You may count on two versions in the offer when it comes to the body styles. The base trim level will come in single cab and double cab layouts. On the other side, higher trim levels will be available in a double cab model only.
2021 Ram 700 Price, Release Date, Competition
The 2021 Ram 700 will be a small truck and experts believe the price will be jaw-dropping. Not expensive, but affordable. Engine upgrades will make it higher than in Latin America, where the base models could be purchased for $12,000. The US version, with all its additions, will be between $15,000-$20,000. When FCA decides if the Ram 700 is coming to this part of Americas, we will know more soon.
The only rival is Ford Maverick. The Blue Oval company is yet to release its small pickup. We expect responses from other truckmakers, especially General Motors. It seems like FCA and Ford are a step ahead of the competition. Last year, Ram 1500 overtook the # 2 spot in sales of the most popular automotive segment in the United States– full-size pickup trucks.
